October 2007 We extend a special invitation to health care disciplines to attend our Advanced HIV Clinical Training. Some of you have already attended and have raved about your experience! We invite you to ‘come on back’ and join us in the clinic for continued experiences and encourage your colleagues to do the same. The pre-requisite is that you attend the two-day "Care and Management Overview of HIV Infection" program or its equivalent prior to coming into clinic. The Advanced HIV Clinical Training course is ONGOING and is offered to physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and physician assistants on an "as requested" basis. The training is held at the Infectious Diseases Clinics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and the STD Clinic of the Mississippi State Department of Health; all clinics are located in the Jackson Medical Mall. We also offer this clinical training in your clinic on request. This training is targeted to providers who serve minority populations, the homeless, rural communities, incarcerated persons, community and migrant health centers, and Ryan White CARE Act-funded sites. It is an opportunity for one-on-one clinical discussion and consultation. Certainly discussions may include clinical utility of resistance testing, HAART, drug sequencing, adherence, markers, prognostic indicators, co-infections, advanced disease, metabolic issues, and much more. The participant has an option to train a full-day or half-day or multiple days. Continuing Education credit, issued in July, will be given based on the number of hours trained.
Training objective: Upon completion of this training the participant
should be able to complete a comprehensive clinical review of the primary
management of the HIV positive patient in the outpatient setting.
For additional information, clinic schedules, and to set up your training, please contact Nona Mills, Program Administrator at 601-815-3496 or 601-984-5542, or e-mail her at nmills@medicine.umsmed.edu .
